Design Control
DTH Engineering & Consultants will, during the course of the design, engage various specialists with the necessary resources to fulfil the requirements of the design output, standards, specifications and statutory constraints. Organisational and technical interfaces between the various departments / disciplines are of paramount importance. Details will be in the description of the project structure.
The design input is typically developed from the basic design through to detailed design and the interaction of various
disciplines. The design output is to conform to appropriate regulatory and contract requirements. It will identify the
safe and correct functioning of all products. The minimum design output requirements have been detailed in the contract
documents, with the actual (as calculated) design outputs being documented during the course of design work.
Design verification is to be carried out during the course of design / engineering either by checks and reviews, or testing
if appropriate. When each design package is completed, it is reviewed by the appropriate Manager or relevant specialised
engineering consultant. The design review includes evaluation of the basic design concepts, checking of the various
calculations and assessment of other inputs / assumptions / etc. Any design deficiencies identified during the review are
referred back to the originator. A design functional review is carried out. This review is to ensure the designed items
can be practically constructed to meet the contract and statutory requirements. The responsible Manager will also ensure the
design drawings are checked and reviewed. All design non-conformances will be referred to the appropriate Manager and / or
specialist for evaluation and preparation of corrective action.
Design changes will be subjected to the same level of review
and verification as for the original design. In addition, any design changes to drawings and specifications will be assigned
with a unique revision number that reflects the latest revision status. Validation of design is confirmation of compliance
with design output requirements. This may be confirmed as fitness for purpose, by commissioning performance tests, or
other contractually agreed mechanism for validation.
